This Code of Conduct sets out the professional standards and responsibilities expected of all dance teachers at SNTS and it ensures that teaching is carried out safely, respectfully and to the highest standards of professionalism and care.
Professional Responsibilities
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating integrity, fairness and respect for all students
- Plan and deliver lessons that are inclusive, age-appropriate and suited to the abilities and developmental stages of learners
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times, avoiding favouritism or behaviour that could be misinterpreted
- Keep accurate records of attendance, progress and any incidents
- Continue to develop professional knowledge and skills to ensure safe and effective teaching
Health and Safety
- Ensure the dance space is clean, safe and suitable for physical activity
- Check the floor, ventilation, lighting and temperature before sessions
- Provide suitable warm-up and cool-down activities to reduce the risk of injury
- Allow adequate rest and hydration breaks
- Report and record all accidents, injuries or near misses promptly
- Ensure that all equipment and props are safe, well maintained and appropriate for use
Safeguarding
- Place the welfare and safety of all students above all other considerations. Report any concerns to the Principal or Welfare Officer
- Be alert to signs of distress, neglect or abuse, and report to SNTS Welfare Officer if any concerns for them to investigate and take forward. Refer to Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy for contact details of Welfare Officer
- Avoid being alone with a student in an isolated or unmonitored area wherever possible
- Use physical contact only when essential for teaching or correction, and ensure it is appropriate and clearly explained
- Obtain parental consent for physical contact with students under the age of 18
- Encourage a supportive environment where students feel safe to express concernsPrivacy and Confidentiality
- Treat all personal and sensitive information about students and families as confidential
- Do not share photographs, videos or identifying details of students without written consent
- Avoid discussing students or parents on social media or in public settings
- Store all records and contact details securely and ensure they are accessible only to authorised individuals
First Aid and Medical Needs
- Hold a valid and up-to-date First Aid qualification
- Be familiar with the location and use of first aid equipment
- Be aware of any medical conditions, allergies or injuries among students as recorded in the company registration system
- Record any accidents or injuries accurately and promptly
- Contact emergency services immediately if a serious incident occurs
Preventing Radicalisation and Promoting Positive Values
- Promote a respectful and inclusive learning environment
- Encourage critical thinking and open discussion without discrimination or intolerance
- Be alert to signs of extremist or discriminatory attitudes and respond appropriately
- Model and promote values of respect, empathy, fairness and personal responsibility
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Treat every learner with dignity and respect, regardless of race, gender, age, disability,
- religion, sexual orientation or background
- Adapt teaching methods to ensure that all students have equal access to learning
- Challenge discriminatory language or behaviour immediately and appropriately
- Celebrate diversity and encourage understanding and acceptance among students
Professional Boundaries and Communication
- Maintain appropriate and professional relationships with students and parents
- Communicate through formal, professional channels only
- Avoid personal or social media interactions with students
- Never use inappropriate, offensive or suggestive language
- Refrain from any behaviour that could be perceived as grooming, intimidation or exploitationIntegrity and Professional Standards
- Uphold the highest standards of honesty, reliability and professionalism at all times
- Avoid any conflicts of interest or situations that could compromise professional judgement
- Provide fair and constructive feedback to students
- Dress appropriately and maintain a professional appearance
- Represent the dance profession positively both inside and outside the teaching environment
Breaches of the Code
- Any breach of this Code may result in disciplinary action or reporting to the relevant authorities if necessary
- All teachers should review and sign this Code of Conduct annually to demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional standards
